Title : Rounded ATA Cable
Page : 1 of 1 Author : James Date : 10/11/2001 22:31:50

The rounded cable was supplied by thecoolingshop.co.uk.

Well, with people wanting nice looking cases and good airflow, one needs some rounded cables! - The below image is the cable in question:

THE CABLE IN QUESTION... (The blue end connects to the mobo and the others to the HDD or CD-ROM drive...)

The cable is a Rounded ATA100, with a Massive length of 90cm, which is great if you have a full tower case... It will also support ATA 33/66 speed drives if you have a slower drive (like me).

ITS MASSIVE!

The rounded thin design helps aid the airflow throught your case, which is important these days ... it's NOT designed to improve data transfer, but simply as fashionable piece of computer hardware.

The cable I had in my case was a normal 45cm HDD cable, shown below:

THE NORMAL CABLE...

To see if there are *ANY* differences between data transfer, I have ran a benchmark using SiSoft Sandra 2001, which has loads of benchmarking tests including hard drive tests. Firstly the original cable benchmark (now you get to see how slow my drive really is):

THE NORMAL CABLE BENCHMARK...

..THE ROUNDED CABLE BENCHMARK

As you can see, there is a *SLIGHT* increase in the scores (HIGHER the better) - But nothing that would greatly improve my performance...

SPACE - The cable greatly increased space which in turn will improve airflow. I have 3 added fans, and I am certain the air is running more smoothly through:

NORMAL CABLE SPACE...

...ROUNDED CABLE SPACE

Although the rounded cable saved space, it is sooooo long that it needs bending back - this is not a bad thing, as its rounded and the air can flow around it :)

CONCLUSION - As a conclusion, I would definetly recommend these to anyone with a PC! Even if you don't need super airflow, these just look cool!

    PROS :
  • Improves airflow
  • They look COOL!
    CONS :
  • Can be a tad too long
