Title : Akasa L.E.D fan review
Page : 1 of 1 Author : James Date : 11/07/2002 00:27:26

When you think of fan, you think keeping your PC cool, right? Well, yes. But with modding now a big part of a computer geeks *ahem* life, why not have a trival item turn into a light show??!!? - With the Akasa LED fans available from Extreme Cooling, you can have that light show ;-).

Two fans

There ya go, the fans in questions :o. - Well they look sexeh :D.

With the fan, you get:

  • 3>4 convertor

  • Screws

  • A chrome fan grill
  • YES, a fan that comes with screws!! - Dont usually get these, plus it also comes with a 3>4 pin convertor.

    The screws

    The 3>4 pin convertor

    The grills

    The specs:

  • Part No: DFS802512M

  • Fan type: RPM Sensor

  • Dimension: 80x80x25mm

  • Rated Voltage: 12V DC

  • Power: 1.4W

  • Rated CUrrent: 0.11A

  • Speed: 2500 R.P.M

  • Air Flow: 32.4CFM

  • Air Pressure: 2.52 MMH(2)O

  • Noise: 27.85 dB(A)

  • Bearing Type: Sleeve Bearing

  • Info on packaging

Part number being the Akasa part number. Its a 80MM, good standard size, can go on your case, your HSF with a 60 > 80MM adapter or even your head if your that way inclined :o. The fan will move 32.4 cubic feet a min, thats a good amount for the sound it produces, which is a mere 27.85 dB, with it on you only get a slight high pitch whining, only _very_ slight.

The main attraction being the LEDs. Each fan has two flashing bl00 LEDs:

    All mine, muwhaha

Clear fans always look good =D. A shot with them on:

    LED on when bright

    LED one when dark

The LED isnt blindingly bright, but it emits enough light to look good.

Time to put it in me case:

    Fan in case

    Fan in case when darkish

I found that you need at least 2 of these before the blue becomes substantial enough. But the flashing LEDs is IMHO, alot better than constant glowing LEDs, espcailly if you dont currently have any other lights in your case.

To sum it all up, these fans are a great value for money. Not only do you get a fan that is quite, but you also get a fan with an added mod. Will look good as a chimney mod =D

    Pros:

  • Very quiet fan

  • Good looking fan

  • Low price

  • Comes with items you usually expect to pay extra for
  • Cons:

  • LEDs not very bright

  • Doesnt light up the fan fins
